Ok, so you're hanging out watching an episode of the greatest TV show ever and you hear some really cool music playing in the background and wish you knew who was playing it and what the name of the song was so you can go find the CD. Well, wonder no more. Here I have listed the "Music of Pete and Pete". Sure it's not a complete list but I think I've hit on the major stuff.
Drop Nineteens
The song "Delaware" is played in episode "X=Why?" and "Farewell, My Little Viking".
Gothic Archies
The song "Your Long White Fingers" otherwise known to fans as "the sad, harmonica music" is heard in "The Trouble with Teddy".
Lucious Jackson
Several songs from the "Natural Ingredients" CD are played in "Dance Fever". These are "Angel", "Here" and "Pele Merengue". This is CD is a definate buy.
Magnetic Fields
This band's music is frequently heard in the series. Most notably, a wicked cool instrumental of "Lovers from the Moon" is played at the end of "Don't Tread on Pete". "Why I Cry" is heard at the end of "Farewell, My Little Viking".
Polaris
Where do I begin to talk about the contributions this band made to the show? Where? Fine, first things first. "Hey, Sandy" is played in the beginning credits of each and every Pete & Pete episode! "She is Staggering" is played at the end of "Day of the Dot" as Pete and Ellen walk off holding hands (oh, how sweet!). "Ivy Boy" is played at the end of "On Golden Pete". "Summerbaby" is THE song that plays in Little Pete's head in "Hard Days Pete".
Racecar
Remember that cool chase scene in "Dance Fever" where Little Pete is being followed by Pitstain? Remember that bitchin' music they played? It's "Wonderment" which can be found on Racecar's "Girlish" album (that is, if you can find a copy).
The 6ths
Wonderful song "Falling out of Love (with You)" is. It can be heard played at the end of "Rangeboy", "When Pete's Collide" and "Das Bus". This song is found on the "Wasps' Nests" CD. You should pick it up if you get the chance. Lot's of other cool music not in the show. With Stephen Merritt writing the songs how can they be bad?
Syd Straw
A sincerely beautiful redition of "Water, Please" (albeit short) is heard at the end of "X= Why?". The version on the CD "War and Peace" isn't as nice (in my humble opinion) <sigh>.
